Festival Stop Motion Montréal, the world’s longest-running festival dedicated to stop motion, is returning for its 13th edition on September 10–19. The event will be held mostly online, with virtual screenings and events accessible worldwide on the Cinéma Public platform.
As per usual, the festival will hold a shorts competition alongside talks and workshops. The film program consists of 93 films from 31 countries, plucked from 300 submissions, and spread across four categories: youth films, emerging talent, independent films, and professional films.

Shorts in the lineup include Waiting for Harold from Oscar winners Christoph and Wolfgang Lauenstein (Balance), Jean-François Lévesque’s NFB production I, Barnabé, and Éric Montchaud’s Annecy-playing A Stone in the Shoe (pictured at top).
Special events will include an online discussion on the making of Indigenous projects and in-person workshops with local stop-motion artists. There are also plans for online workshops with guests based abroad.
