Video Game developer Studio Wildcard has dropped a trailer for ARK: The Animated Series, which will be released on a soon-to-be-announced platform sometime this year.
- Synopsis: The animated series is an adaptation of the hit video game. In a sweeping story that spans eons of human & world history, 21st-century paleontologist Helena Walker finds herself resurrected on a mysterious primeval land after a tragedy. There she must learn to survive and find new allies, or die again at the hands of ruthless warlords — all while trying to uncover the true nature of their strange new world.
- Jay Oliva (Trese, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns) is executive producing, directing, and co-showrunner alongside ARK franchise creators Jeremy Stieglitz and Jesse Rapczak. It’s being produced at Oliva’s Glendale-based Lex+Otis animation studio and was written by Marguerite Bennett and Kendall Deacon Davis. Other executive producers include Gerard Butler, Russel Crowe, and Vin Diesel.
- The A-list voice cast includes Gerard Butler, Dee Bradley Baker, Monica Bellucci, Devery Jacobs, Cissy Jones, Madeleine Madden, Deborah Mailman, Zahn McClarnon, Malcolm McDowell, Juliet Mills, Elliot Page, Ragga Ragnars, David Tennant, Alan Tudyk, Karl Urban, Jeffrey Wright, Michelle Yeoh, Ron Yuan, Russell Crowe, and Vin Diesel.
- Within a month of its early access release on Steam, ARK: Survival Evolved had sold over one million copies. By August 2016, the game had over 5.5 million sales across both Windows and Xbox One. The game has a “Very Positive” player rating on Steam and an extremely dedicated player base that’s still holding strong years after the game’s release.
- ARK II was announced at The Game Awards in 2020 and is scheduled to kick off early access sometime in 2023. If that schedule still holds up, it seems likely that the series release could be tied in with the game’s early access launch.
