Disney has announced that Marvel Studios has swapped theatrical release dates for The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Max Weinstein is a writer and editor based in Los Angeles. He is the Editor-at-Large of ‘Dread Central’ and former Editorial Director of ‘MovieMaker.’ His work has been featured in ‘Cineaste,’ ‘Fangoria,’ ‘Playboy,’ ‘Vice,’ and ‘The Week.’
The Marvels is a direct sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel. Candyman helmer Nic DaCosta directs, with Brie Larson returning as Captain Marvel, alongside co-stars Samuel L. Jackson, Teyonah Garris, and Iman Vellani.
Quantumania is the third film in the ongoing Ant-Man series. Peyton Reed (Ant-Man and its sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp) returns to direct, with Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Douglas, Jonathan Majors, and Kathryn Newton set to star.
The Marvels was originally slated for a Feb. 17, 2023 release. Quantumania was scheduled to open July 28, 2023. According to Variety, the two films will now trade places, primarily because Quantumania is “further along in its creative process than The Marvels[. T]he former has wrapped principal photography while The Marvels still has a bit more to go.”
