Amazon to the rescue! Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated continuation of the hugely influential mid-90s Batman: The Animated Series, which was axed by HBO Max last year, has been saved with a two-season deal at Prime Video, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City,” Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Reeves (The Batman) said in a 2021 joint statement. “The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world.”
First announced in May 2021, Batman: Caped Crusader marks Timm’s return to the iconic Dark Knight in animated episodic television, which began with the Emmy Award-winning Batman: The Animated Series. The previous show is considered by many as one of the best depictions of the character in any medium, and one of the greatest animated superhero series of all time.
