Bound by honor, compelled to defend… Yasuke!
Netflix has just released the official trailer and key art for their highly anticipated anime series, Yasuke, a reimagined story of the first African samurai. The six-episode series debuts worldwide on April 29, 2021.
Produced by Japanese animation studio MAPPA (Attack on Titan: The Final Season, Jujutsu Kaisen), the series is set in a war-torn feudal Japan filled with mechs and magic, where the greatest ronin never known, Yasuke, struggles to maintain a peaceful existence after a past life of violence. But when a local village becomes the center of social upheaval between warring daimyo, Yasuke must take up his sword and transport a mysterious child who is the target of dark forces and bloodthirsty warlords.

The streamer also announced the additional voice cast includes Takehiro Hira as Nobunaga; Maya Tanida as Saki; Ming-Na Wen as Natsumaru; Paul Nakauchi as Morisuke; Darren Criss as Haruto; Julie Marcus as Nikita; William Christopher Stephens as Achoja; Dia Frampton as Ishikawa; Don Donahue as Abraham; Amy Hill as Daimyo; and Noshi Dalal as Kurosaka (Dark General).
Yasuke is created by LeSean Thomas (Cannon Busters) who also serves as executive producer and director. The series features designs from world class director and animator Takeshi Koike (Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine), and stars award-winning actor LaKeith Stanfield (Judas and the Black Messiah), who voices Yasuke and also executive produces, with music by Grammy Award-nominated artist Flying Lotus.
