Les Éditions Albert René has partnered with Netflix to develop the first ever animated series directed by Alain Chabat, based on the famous comic book adventures of “Asterix” created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo. The series will be developed with Toulouse-based TAT animation studio, currently gearing up for production by launching a large recruitment campaign to hire around 60 graphic designers and increase its workforce to 200 employees. The series was first teased last March.
The new animated series, to be released in 2024, will be helmed by Chabat, who wrote and directed the popular 2002 film Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra. Alain Goldman will produce.
Since its appearance in 1959, the Asterix franchise has developed a large international following; more than 385 million copies of the “Asterix” books have been sold, translated into 111 languages and dialects, and a total of 14 feature films have been released since 1967, including 10 cartoons and 4 live-action movies.
